Boudoir Lingerie Guide

Choosing outfits for your boudoir session does not need to turn into a midnight panic-scroll situation.

You do not need to know lingerie terms. You do not need to magically understand sizing. You do not need to buy a pile of things online and hope one of them works.

This guide is here to help you understand what different pieces do, what tends to photograph well, and how to choose outfits that fit your body, comfort level, and the kind of images you want to create.

And if you still have no idea? That is fine too.

Every session includes access to my 400+ piece client closet in sizes XS-5XL, and we’ll go through options together before we start shooting.

Bra & Panty Sets

Bra and panty sets are a classic for a reason. They are simple, versatile, easy to layer with robes or accessories, and great if you want something that still feels like lingerie without being too complicated.

The biggest thing is fit. A set does not need to be expensive to photograph well, but it does need to fit your body comfortably.

If you are between sizes, unsure what styles work for your body, or staring at your cart like it personally offended you, send it to me and I’ll help

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Choose a bra that fits without gapping, digging, or creating side spillage
  • Skip heavy push-up styles if you want a softer, more natural shape on camera
  • Cheeky, thong, or Brazilian-style panties usually photograph better from behind
  • High-waisted bottoms can add coverage while still shaping the waist
  • Matching sets are great, but mixed pieces can work too

Bodysuits & Teddies

Bodysuits and teddies are client favorites because they work for so many bodies, comfort levels, and session styles. They are easy to wear, easy to pose in, and they photograph beautifully from a lot of angles.

Look for lace, mesh, underwire, plunge necklines, cutouts, high-cut legs, or interesting straps. Those details can add shape and texture without making the outfit feel too busy.

A quick breakdown:

Teddies usually feel more like lingerie. They are often lace, sheer, strappy, or more delicate.

Bodysuits usually offer a little more structure and coverage. Some feel more like shapewear, some feel like lingerie, and some live somewhere in between.

These are great if you want:

  • More coverage through the stomach
  • A piece that feels secure while posing
  • Something that works with curves instead of fighting them
  • A little support without needing a full set
  • An outfit that looks finished without adding a lot of layers

Corsets, Bustiers, and Garter Belts

If you want structure, shape, and a little drama, this is where corsets, bustiers, and garter belts come in.

They are not required. They are not for everyone. But when they fit well, they can photograph beautifully.

Fit matters a lot with these pieces. If it digs in, rolls, gaps, or makes it hard to move, it may not be the best choice for a session where you’ll be posing, arching, sitting, standing, and pretending your limbs belong to you.

Corsets are usually more structured and are great for creating a defined waist or a vintage-inspired look.

Bustiers often have built-in cups or bra support, which can make them feel a little easier to wear if you want lift and coverage.

Garter belts are more of a styling piece and are usually paired with thigh-high stockings. They can make an outfit feel more finished, classic, or playful.

A few outfit ideas:

  • Corset with high-waisted panties
  • Bustier with sheer thigh-highs
  • Garter belt layered with a bra and panty set
  • Structured top with fishnets or a robe

Clothing and Shapewear

You do not have to wear traditional lingerie for your boudoir session. Clothing can be sexy, personal, cozy, edgy, soft, playful, or completely your own. Sometimes the best outfit is not technically lingerie at all.

A note on jerseys: they can absolutely work, but fitted or intentionally styled pieces usually photograph better than something that hides your shape completely. We can always play with how it is worn, pulled, tucked, slipped off the shoulder, or layered.

Shapewear can also be a great option. Some pieces create a clean, sculpted look and photograph like a bodysuit, especially when paired with heels, stockings, jewelry, or a robe.

Client favorites include:

  • Oversized button-down shirts
  • Off-the-shoulder sweaters
  • Cropped tees
  • Leather jackets
  • Blazers
  • Fitted tanks or bodysuits
  • Partner’s shirts
  • Jerseys or meaningful pieces
  • Shapewear that doubles as a sleek bodysuit

Just the Sheets and Nude Looks

My Just the Sheets add-on is exactly what it sounds like: soft white sheets, intentional posing, and no outfit stress. It can feel intimate, simple, soft, spicy, or a little more vulnerable depending on how we pose and style it.

Implied nude images are similar in that they suggest nudity without needing to show everything. Posing, sheets, hands, angles, shadows, and careful direction do a lot of the work here. We can also go full nude if you’re comfortable and want to rock your birthday suit.

And no, you are not just standing there naked wondering what to do. Absolutely not.

These images are often client favorites because they are simple and personal without relying on the “perfect outfit.”

If you are nervous about this style, that is normal. We can talk through it before your session, and you are never required to do anything that does not feel right for you.

Lingerie for Boudoir FAQs

My client closet includes sizes XS-5XL, with a growing selection of plus-size lingerie options.

The closet includes bodysuits, lingerie sets, robes, corsets, bralettes, accessories, and pieces that work for different comfort levels and session styles.

Absolutely.

You are welcome to bring your own outfits, and we can mix them with client closet pieces if you want. Some clients bring a full bag. Some bring one meaningful item. Some use the closet completely.

All valid.

Yes. Very much yes.

I’ll help you choose outfits before we start shooting, and you can also send me ideas ahead of time if you want input. We’ll look at what you brought, what is available in the client closet, what fits comfortably, and what works best for the kind of images you want.

You do not have to make those decisions alone.

Sessions include 3 outfits, but it is totally fine (and encouraged) to bring extra options to choose from.

It is better to have a few choices than to feel stuck with something that does not fit right or does not feel like you once you put it on.

Nope.

You can wear lingerie, clothing, shapewear, sheets, robes, a partner’s shirt, something meaningful, or a mix of everything. Boudoir does not require one specific outfit style.

The point is not the lingerie.

The point is creating images that feel like you.

My Favorite Local Lingerie Shops

Looking for boudoir lingerie near Bay City, Saginaw, Midland, or the surrounding area?

Torrid is often a good option for plus-size lingerie, bodysuits, bralettes, and pieces that offer more support. Victoria’s Secret can work well for bra and panty sets, robes, and classic lingerie basics. Shops like Nice & Naughty and AfterDark Fantasies may have more playful, spicy, or specialty pieces.

Just remember: do not buy something only because it looks good on the hanger. Sit in it. Move in it. Check the straps. Make sure it does not dig, gap, roll, or make you want to fight somebody.

Client Amazon Favorites

Amazon can be hit or miss, but it can be helpful if you need something affordable, fast, or easy to return.

Read reviews with photos when possible. Check size charts instead of guessing. Order multiple options if your budget allows. Try everything on as soon as it arrives.

And please, for the love of all things holy, do not wait until the night before your session to find out your bodysuit requires engineering skills and emotional support to put on.
