Being a boudoir photographer is more than just taking photos. It’s about connection, empowerment, and creating a space where people feel confident and celebrated. My days are a mix of creativity, personal connection, and a little chaos – and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Here’s a glimpse into what a typical day looks like behind the lens.
The first thing I do every morning is set an intention for the day. Whether it’s helping a client rediscover their confidence or experimenting with a new lighting setup, starting with a purpose keeps me grounded.
After a quick scroll through my emails and DMs, I sip my decaf coffee, snuggle my cats and review the day’s schedule. My studio in Bay City, Michigan, is a private and intimate space, so each shoot is carefully planned to create a luxurious experience. Today’s schedule includes two back-to-back sessions: a maternity boudoir shoot and a couples’ session. Each requires a unique approach, from props to lighting to posing techniques.
Before clients arrive, I prep the studio. With a client closet of over 300 pieces of lingerie, I lay out options based on their requests, preferences and body types. I’m big on giving my clients choices, so I always encourage try-ons before we start shooting. There’s something magical about watching someone’s face light up when they find that perfect piece that makes them feel stunning.
I also set up props and add-ons that clients have requested. Whether it’s angel wings, a shower setup for a wet-skin look, or a romantic swing, these small touches add depth and personality to their session. The studio is a blend of cozy and professional, designed to make anyone feel at ease.
The real magic happens during the shoot. My goal isn’t just to take photos but to create an experience. Most clients start out a little nervous – that’s completely normal. We chat, laugh, and get to know each other as I guide them through poses. I even shoot in my own bra and underwear during sessions to normalize the experience and show solidarity.
One of my favorite moments is when clients start to let go of their insecurities. There’s a shift – you can see it in their posture, their smile, and their eyes. It’s that moment of realization that they’re beautiful exactly as they are and that they can do this. That’s the heartbeat of boudoir photography for me.
Each session is tailored to the individual. Maternity shoots highlight the power and beauty of creating life, while couples’ sessions capture intimacy and connection. LGBTQ+ friendly and body-positive, my studio is a safe space for everyone.
After the sessions, we review a few raw shots together. This sneak peek often leaves clients excited to see the final results. Once they leave, I tidy up the studio (sometimes…sometimes that part is left for a later date) and take a moment to reflect on the day’s energy.
Then it’s time for lunch or dinner and a quick recharge. Running a business can be draining, but I’ve learned the importance of setting boundaries and taking breaks to avoid burnout. Whether it’s stepping outside for fresh air, making time for the gym, or cuddling with my cats, Weasley and Bass, self-care is an essential part of my routine.
The evenings are when I dive into post-production. Editing boudoir photos is a meticulous process. My goal is to enhance the natural beauty of my clients without altering who they are. It’s about finding the perfect balance between polished and authentic.
I sort through hundreds of images, selecting the best shots that showcase their unique features. Then, I adjust lighting, color tones, and textures to create the signature style my clients love.
As I wrap up editing, I’ll plan for upcoming shoots. This includes responding to inquiries, updating social media, and brainstorming new ideas. Staying organized helps me keep the creative juices flowing.
Being a boudoir photographer isn’t just a job; it’s a calling. I’ve seen firsthand how transformative these sessions can be. It’s not just about the final photos – it’s about the journey. Watching someone walk out of my studio with their head held high and a newfound sense of confidence is everything.
This work has also taught me so much about myself. It’s a constant reminder to embrace my own imperfections and celebrate what makes me unique. Empowering others is one of the most rewarding experiences, and I’m honored to do it every day.
Boudoir photography is more than an art form; it’s a celebration of individuality, strength, and self-love. Every body is beautiful, and every person deserves to feel seen and celebrated. If you’ve ever considered booking a boudoir session, let this be your sign. You’re worth it.
To all the women who’ve trusted me with their stories and their beauty, thank you. And to those I’ve yet to meet, I can’t wait to show you just how stunning you are – inside and out.
I believe in helping women celebrating their figures, finding your confidence, and being part of you filling your want to simply feel beautiful and relish in it.
